Core Values

Christ Our Lord Core Values

COL holds to a solid, biblical theology, and worldview. We combine the rich Anglican tradition with a relaxed, casual atmosphere. We honestly care about one another and are passionate about God. We are committed to children and children’s ministry and to youth and youth ministry. We are committed to evangelism and international missions.

  1. We recognize Jesus as the head of this church. We are committed to seeking His will in all things.
  2. We recognize the Bible as God’s written word and the ultimate authority by which all else is judged. We are committed to teaching, preaching, and modeling Biblical values.
  3. We recognize the Holy Spirit as the giver of good gifts, which are available to Christians today as they were in New Testament times. We prayerfully seek those gifts to be manifested in our worship and ministries and expect that they be exercised in humility and love for the benefit of the whole church.
  4. Celebration: We believe that authentic Christian community is characterized by every aspect of our common life being a celebration of what God has done for us in Jesus Christ. We are committed to its expression in the three main elements of church life: the Cell (small group), Celebration (corporate worship), and Caring Ministry (to the church and to the world)
  5. Worship: We believe that worship is the ultimate purpose of the Church and its main function; it is from worship that all else flows. We are committed to celebrative and participatory corporate worship that is open to the leading of the Holy Spirit, culturally appropriate, relevant to daily life, nurturing and empowering to the faithful, and welcoming and accessible to newcomers.
  6. Prayer: We believe that an authentic Christian community is characterized by a fervent devotion to prayer, which undergirds and supports every aspect of its common life. We are committed to becoming a people of prayer.
  7. The Great Commission: We believe that it is God’s desire for all to hear the Gospel and to respond. We are committed to reaching the unchurched with the Good News of Jesus through spiritual gifts-based, passion-driven evangelism, bridge events, welcoming and accessible worship, and service.
  8. Change: We believe that the unchanging message of the gospel must be presented to a changing world in fresh and culturally relevant ways. We are committed to a contemporary and creative presentation of the Gospel, which requires a continual openness to change.
  9. Covenant: We believe that God calls every Christian into a committed covenant relationship in a local church. We are committed to including people in an authentic Christian community and introducing them to the privileges and responsibilities of being a member of a church family. (Col 3:15)
  10. Discipleship: We believe that God calls every Christian into a life-long process of growing more and more like Christ in thoughts, feelings, and actions. We are committed to providing a path for life-changing spiritual growth that includes a variety of spiritual experiences (including worship, fellowship, solid biblical teaching, evangelism, and ministry) that develop habits of holiness.
  11. Cell-ebration Groups: We believe that Christian discipleship and pastoral care are best done in the context of small groups and one-on-one relationships. We are committed to the small group as the primary building block of the church and the model for ministry. Ideally, every Christian should be mentoring and being mentored to.
  12. Stewardship: We believe God calls every Christian to be a faithful steward of the material resources, time, and talents with which He has entrusted them. We are committed to the Biblical tithe as the minimum standard for Christian giving.
  13. Ministry: We believe that ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit is the call of every Christian. We are committed to the fundamental responsibility of leaders to help every member of the church (young and old alike) discover, develop, and exercise their spiritual gifts in meaningful ministries in the world and the church.
  14. Reconciliation: We believe that an authentic Christian community is called to be an agent of reconciliation. We are committed to being instruments of reconciliation and healing at all levels of human relationships, seeking justice and peace.
  15. Reproduction: We believe that planting new churches is the most effective form of evangelism. We are committed to plant new Churches that grow and reproduce.
